Here are some English proverbs. Let’s read them.

1.     East or West – home is best.	а) Кожна країна має свої звичаї.

3.     Every country has its customs.	в) В гостях добре, а вдома краще.
4.     My home is my castle.	г) Коли ти в Римі, роби так, як римляни роблять.

                                                                                                                                         Every country has its customs. It’s very important to know them.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  The English are naturally polite and they are never tired of saying «Please», «Thank you» and «Excuse me».They are generally disciplined and reserved. You’ll never hear a loud talk in the streets.                                                                                               

  At the British banks, shops, cinemas, theatres or bus stops you can always see people in queues. They stand in a line and wait quietly, often for a long time. Each new person stands at the end of the queue – sometimes in rain, wind or snow. The English don’t rush for seats in the buses and trains.                                                         

 The English people do not shake hands when meeting each other, they do not show their emotions much.                                                                                         

The English are a nation of stay - at - homes. There is no place like home, they say. English people prefer small houses to live in.                                                         

 The fireplace is the centre of interest in the room .They like to sit round the fire and watch dancing flames, exchanging the day’s experience. In many houses you’ll still see fireplaces, sometimes with columns on which there is often a clock or a mirror or photos.                                                                                                                                     

 The English people like gardening. They talk about it in their offices, in the shops and at home. In the evening they work in their gardens, large and small, and do it at any weather. They grow flowers, vegetables and fruits there. If an Englishman has no garden he grows something in a window –box outside his kitchen.                                                                                                                                             TThe British are a nation of animal lovers. They have about 5 million dogs and 5 million cats, 3 million parrots and other cage birds, aquarium fish and 1 million exotic pets at home. A lot of money is spent on them.
